What to do before the 2026 deadlines
Start with the date that applies to your project: buying and installing equipment, completing an evaluation, or sending the final claim. The programmes below do not share one national closing date. If a measure fits work you already intend to do, plan the service and paperwork around its actual cutoff. The dates below were checked against official information on November 2, 2026. This is a selected list of confirmed deadlines, organized by the action still available to the homeowner.
The distinction that matters most is what the date controls: applying, buying equipment, finishing work, completing an assessment or submitting the final claim. An open claim window can remain after new installations stop qualifying. A calendar-year tax reporting boundary is not, by itself, the permanent closure of a credit.
All rebate amounts below are in Canadian dollars. Funding balances are not published in these sources; confirm availability with the administrator before committing to a new cost.
Québec: LogisVert’s pool-pump measure ends before its claim window
Hydro-Québec says the efficient pool-pump measure will be withdrawn on November 30, 2026. Purchase and installation must take place before November 30, while the claim must reach the programme no later than March 1, 2027. Do not assume that work on November 30 itself qualifies. This ends one measure, not every LogisVert offer. Read the pool-pump section of the official terms.
The published amounts are C$125 for a two-speed pump and C$300 for a variable-speed pump, subject to dwelling, product and purchase conditions. Evidence includes ownership, an itemized invoice and photos of the serial number and motor rating plate. A deposit or order alone is not the purchase-and-installation test.
What this means for you: if a replacement already makes sense, check stock, installation availability and documentation before buying. If the existing pump is serviceable, compare the complete cost with the modest contribution. For a qualifying replacement, secure an installation date before the cutoff and make sure the installer can supply the invoice and photographs needed for the claim.
Medicine Hat evaluations: complete and submit by December 15
The city’s EnerGuide Home Evaluation Incentive covers eligible evaluations completed January 1–December 15, 2026; rebate requests are also required by December 15. It offers up to C$250 for a qualifying pre-renovation evaluation and up to C$250 for a qualifying post-renovation evaluation, and can close earlier when funds are disbursed. The terms provide no reservation of funds: a complete rebate request takes its place in the submission queue. Check the evaluation rebate terms. See the current programme information.
Eligibility includes receiving a City of Medicine Hat utility statement. Documentation must carry the city’s required Home Energy Program identifier; the registered energy advisor’s current city business-licence number must appear on the paid receipt. The normal payment is a utility-account credit, with a separate discussion route described for residential rental owners.
What this means for you: confirm the advisor can supply those identifiers before booking. An appointment outside the term, or a general report without the required details, is not the same qualifying service. Ask when the report and receipt will be available so that an assessment near the cutoff does not leave the claim incomplete.
Medicine Hat Existing Homes: existing participants must claim by December 15
New applications are closed: the city says the Existing Homes Incentive became fully subscribed on September 29, 2026 and no longer accepts requests for the queue. December 15, 2026 remains the document-submission deadline for existing participants. Renovations must be completed and receipts dated within January 1–December 15, 2026, and a post-renovation EnerGuide evaluation is required. The published terms set a C$5,000 lifetime programme ceiling. Existing reservations also require project paperwork within 180 days of submission of the pre-renovation evaluation or by December 15, whichever comes first; the file may therefore have an earlier deadline. Check the reservation terms. Follow the city’s application sequence.
The programme’s general instructions describe a Reservation of Funds process, but the current closure notice controls new entry. Do not interpret an older application link or the later claim deadline as a reopened queue. Existing approvals still need to meet their conditions.
What this means for you: align the contractor, prerequisite work, final evaluation and documents before the deadline. New applicants cannot enter the closed 2026 queue; ask about a future intake separately. Finishing the visible work is insufficient if the assessment and claim package cannot be completed in time.
Already closed: new applications and existing claims differ
Housing NWT lists October 31, 2026 as the application deadline for Mobility Modifications, which had passed when we checked on November 2. The current official page still gives that cutoff, with no extension stated there. Treat the 2026 intake as closed unless Housing NWT confirms otherwise. It is a forgivable loan, not a generic cash grant. Check the official intake information.
The federal Oil to Heat Pump Affordability route ended new applications July 31, 2026; partner routes have their own rules. Existing-file work or claim deadlines do not reopen that route. Read the federal closure wording. Existing applicants should use the instructions for their actual file.
December 31 is not automatically a programme closure
Saskatchewan describes its current Home Renovation Tax Credit as applying to 2025 and subsequent tax years. Calendar-year expense rules determine the return on which a claim may belong; they do not establish that the entire credit permanently ends December 31, 2026. Read the province’s tax-year explanation.
What this means for you: keep dated records and use the correct-year rules. Do not rush an unsuitable renovation because an advertisement substitutes “last chance” for an actual termination notice. Equally, do not assume a standing programme’s rate or limits can never change.
The practical order: confirm, document, then commit
Identify the precise measure, location and deadline type. Ask the administrator whether funding remains and whether approval or a reservation is required before spending. Record the answer and save the current terms. Then obtain a complete written scope and confirm the work can be performed safely within the real window.
Prepare a folder for ownership or utility evidence, approval or reservation references, product details, itemized invoices, proof of payment, installation evidence and required assessments. Each programme’s own document list controls. Check every field before submitting and retain the submission receipt.
Book the required contractor or advisor promptly, and leave time to correct missing claim documents before the deadline. Compare other relevant support through the programme catalogue and use our quote comparison guide to avoid paying more than the assistance is worth.
Your checklist
- Save the current official terms and confirm funding availability before making a new commitment.
- Label each date: application, purchase/install, evaluation or final claim.
- Confirm pre-approval or reservation before spending where required.
- Keep the complete project and claim feasible; avoid deadline-driven purchases.
