# Quebec Chauffez vert closed in March 2026

Checked October 30, 2026. Chauffez vert no longer offers assistance for converting oil or propane central heating. The final cutoff was March 31, 2026: homeowners had to finish the work and submit their application within the closing deadline. Applications received after March 31 are not accepted. Do not deduct a Chauffez vert payment from the budget for a new project. Québec closure and work rules

What the former program covered

The program supported complete removal of an oil or propane central furnace or boiler and its fuel tank, followed by installation of new equipment using electricity or other eligible renewable energy. Natural-gas conversions were excluded. Dismantling and installation required appropriately licensed contractors. Converting a fuel-fired water heater alone did not qualify; it had to accompany the eligible central-heating conversion. Former eligible work

Eligible buildings included single-family homes, duplexes, triplexes and small residential buildings in Quebec. Buildings could have no more than three storeys and a ground-floor footprint of 600 square metres. They had to be habitable year-round and connected to Hydro-Québec's main grid or an eligible municipal or cooperative electricity network. Buildings on autonomous electricity grids were excluded. The applicant had to own the property; commercial and mixed-use buildings were outside this program. Former property and applicant requirements

Historical assistance amounts

The final published central-heating conversion amounts depended on the former fuel and building type:

Home typeOil conversionPropane conversion
Detached house$1,275$850
Semi-detached or row house$875$650
Mobile home$1,075$600
Duplex or triplex$875 per eligible dwelling$650 per eligible dwelling
Multi-unit residential building$550 per eligible dwelling$225 per eligible dwelling

A qualifying detached-house water-heater conversion added $250 for oil or $200 for propane. Multi-unit water-heater calculations had additional dwelling and equipment-count rules. These figures describe the closed program, not an available rebate. Québec historical payment schedule

Why the old twelve month window does not reopen applications

Earlier rules allowed up to twelve months from the start of eligible work to apply. That window was still subject to the final March 2026 closure. It did not permit a later application simply because a project had started less than a year earlier. Application timing rules

If you submitted an application before closure

The administrator's follow-up page distinguishes existing applications from new claims. It says applicants are notified by email of the eligibility decision. The published deadline for requested additional documents and secure submission of a social insurance number was June 30, 2026. That date has also passed; the page does not establish a new opportunity to cure an incomplete file. Existing application guidance

For an unresolved application, keep your submission confirmation, invoices and administrator correspondence together and ask the program about your specific file. Do not send your social insurance number by email: the program explicitly requires its secure process. Its published payment estimate is four to six weeks after confirmation that a file is complete, not after the installation date. Payment and secure information instructions

For new work, assess other programs separately. A contractor's reference to an old Chauffez vert amount is not evidence that today's project qualifies for funding.

Keep evidence of the old conversion together

For an unresolved file, make a chronological record of the work start, removal of the old equipment, completion, application submission and any request for additional documents. Keep the contractor's itemized invoices and submission confirmation alongside that record. Identify whether the question concerns eligibility, missing information or payment on an already complete file; those are different issues for the administrator to answer.

Do not treat an installer invoice as proof that the application was submitted on time. Ask the administrator about the existing file using its reference number, and retain the reply. If asked for sensitive identifiers, use the administrator's secure instructions rather than adding the information to ordinary email correspondence. This record does not reopen a closed claim period, but it makes an existing-file enquiry more precise.

Compare other pathways before arranging new heating work

For a new installation, remove the historical Chauffez vert allowance from the quote and review the full cost first. Ask which other program is being proposed, who administers it and which approval or equipment conditions apply before work begins. The National Heat Pump Rebate announcement describes a future federal pathway; it is not a reopened Chauffez vert application.

Income-qualified households can check the federal affordability-program directory for the relevant Québec delivery route. A directory entry is a starting point for a local eligibility check, not a funding reservation. For minor efficiency assistance, our Éconologis seasonal guide explains the current registration closure. Keep each program's dates and scope in a separate column when comparing proposals, and use our quote-comparison guide for the work itself.
