Ontario homeowners can use Home Renovation Savings to help pay for eligible energy upgrades. Enbridge Gas and Save on Energy deliver the program with Ontario government support. There are two routes: bundled renovations requiring energy assessments, and individual upgrades without an assessment requirement. Choose your route before committing to work. Choose the right rebate route

The assessment route requires an initial assessment before work, followed by at least two qualifying upgrades and a final assessment. Advertised rebates include:

UpgradeAdvertised rebate
Attic insulationUp to $1,500
Foundation insulationUp to $2,300
Exterior wall insulationUp to $3,600
Exposed floor insulation$300
Windows and doors$100 per rough opening
Heat pump water heater$500
Air sealingUp to $250

The $600 assessment rebate is paid after successful completion. These are measure-specific offers, not amounts every household receives. Assessment route

Other no-assessment offers include solar and battery storage up to $10,000, $125 thermostats and appliances up to $200. Program rebate overview

Heat pump rebates depend on fuel and equipment: the $12,000 maximum concerns qualifying ground-source systems in electricity-, oil-, propane- or wood-heated homes. This route requires a participating contractor and pre-installation approval; installation before approval is ineligible. Heat pump rates and process

Attic insulation also has a no-assessment option of up to $1,250. It requires a participating contractor and insulation of the entire roof assembly; the amount depends on existing insulation and the final insulation level. Do not combine its advertised maximum with the assessment-route attic maximum for the same work. Attic insulation route

Check the home and heating requirements

Assessment-stream eligibility depends on heating fuel and utility connection. Qualifying homes use Enbridge-supplied natural gas or electricity, oil, propane or wood with an eligible Ontario electricity-grid connection. The rules exclude Cornwall Electric from that electricity-grid route.

Eligible building types include detached and semi-detached homes, row housing, non-stacked townhomes and permanently founded mobile homes. New homes need at least six months of occupancy. Multi-unit and secondary-suite properties need special attention: not every building containing a basement apartment qualifies. An approved service organization can check the building before you book. Assessment eligibility requirements

Confirm the ceiling and deadline before starting

The currently linked assessment terms, version November 2025, set stream ceilings of $5,000 for eligible Enbridge-gas-heated homes and $10,000 for the other eligible heating routes, including the $600 assessment allowance. They require the final assessment within 180 days of the initial assessment or by December 31, 2026, whichever comes first, with scheduling entered in the program system by November 30, 2026. Ask your advisor to confirm the applicable edition and timetable before proceeding. These dates are not a stated closure date for every Home Renovation Savings stream. Assessment eligibility and dated requirements

The live FAQ also offers a $500 bonus for three or more qualifying assessment-stream upgrades where the final assessment is on or after January 5, 2026. Confirm how that bonus interacts with your stream ceiling rather than adding all advertised amounts together. Previous participation can be allowed, but the same upgrade cannot receive another rebate; the assessment rebate is available once per participant and home under this program. Program FAQ

Your next step

For bundled work, start with the official service-organization finder, obtain an assessment and select qualifying improvements from the report. Complete the work and final assessment, then have your advisor submit the documentation. For a single upgrade, open that measure’s official page and check its contractor, equipment and application rules before buying. Bundled application steps, Individual upgrade options

Use a written route-and-budget checklist

Before booking work, write the chosen stream at the top of the project folder. For an assessment bundle, list the proposed measures, the advisor's recommendations, assessment appointments and the documents the service organization will submit. For a single measure, record its participating-contractor and pre-approval requirements separately. This prevents a rule from one pathway being applied to a different upgrade.

Ask for an estimate that shows the full installed price, each proposed rebate, the assessment cost and any amount outside the approved scope. Have the advisor or program confirm the applicable ceiling and deadline edition in writing where your schedule depends on it. Keep the gross cost visible when comparing quotes; the largest advertised rebate does not necessarily produce the best value.

For the work itself, our window repair-or-replacement guide can help frame the problem before ordering new units. Our contractor quote comparison helps identify missing scope. If you are reading an older estimate, use the separate HER+ closure guide to identify benefits that no longer belong in a new budget. For income-qualified installed assistance, review Home Winterproofing as a separate route rather than assuming it is another deduction for the same work.
