What the program provides

The participant agreement provides for approved measures to be supplied and installed without charge by the delivery agent’s contractor. Both pre- and post-retrofit EnerGuide evaluations are required. The work order identifies the actual insulation, draft proofing and other measures being offered to that household.

A smart thermostat is conditional on completing at least one eligible insulation or draft-proofing measure. Initial screening or an assessment does not guarantee that every measure, or any particular measure, will be installed. Previous participation can affect eligibility. These conditions matter when comparing the program with an advertisement promising a fixed package of free products. Homeowner participant agreement

Renters can participate with their landlord

Renters should involve the landlord before installation. The rented-address agreement requires both the participant and landlord to sign beforehand. It also says the landlord must not raise rent on the basis of measures installed through the program.

Read the proposed work order together and identify which improvements are actually approved. The agreement distinguishes covered work from optional products or services outside the program; neither the tenant nor landlord is obliged to purchase those extras. Rented-home participant agreement

How to get started

Apply through Enbridge’s official page or call 1-844-770-3148. Its streamlined application screens for both Home Winterproofing and the Energy Affordability Program. Electrically heated households should apply directly to the latter. Official application route

The Energy Affordability Program has separate comprehensive-support and energy-saving-kit routes. Depending on the home and existing equipment, its approved support can include efficient appliances and lighting. It does not mean every Winterproofing participant automatically receives an appliance replacement. Save on Energy program

Before agreeing to work, ask the delivery agent to confirm the approved scope, assessment arrangements and any optional extras in writing. Keep your signed work order. Budget separately for improvements outside that scope; the free program does not promise reimbursement for unrelated work.

Prepare a useful brief for the delivery agent

Write down the rooms that are uncomfortable, the times when you notice drafts and any changes to the home since a previous assessment. Have the utility account details and the requested eligibility documents ready. Follow the official evidence list rather than sending a full set of financial records to an unsolicited contact. If you rent, tell the delivery agent at the start so that the correct agreement and landlord arrangements can be discussed.

Ask who will visit, how to verify that person and which areas of the property need access. Let the household know the appointment time and plan around any mobility, language or communication needs. The purpose of preparation is to help the assessment reflect the home as it is, rather than to predict a particular package of products.

Keep the free scope separate from optional purchases

Before installation, ask to see the work order and identify each covered measure. If an optional product is suggested, ask for its separate price and whether it is necessary for the approved work. Avoid signing a combined document whose free and paid portions are unclear. Keep the signed agreement and ask who to contact if an installation appointment or the proposed work changes.

After the visit, request a demonstration of any new controls and retain the documentation needed for follow-up. For renovations you choose to arrange independently, compare the distinct Home Renovation Savings process and use our quote checklist to identify exclusions. Old HER+ offers should not appear as a current contribution to those separate purchases.
